A Simple Desk With Drawers Just May be the Perfect Workstation
When people find out that I work in the office furniture business, I get two reactions. My blue collar people give me a strange look, then I have a conversation about how I spent twenty years in the construction field before making the switch. Then, there are those who work in an office. I get a lot of questions about desks. Everyone is looking for the latest trends and exciting new features, but then I start talking functionality, and design. As I looked over it, I was blown away by how cool it is. Just look at that glass top! And that lowered L shaped return! If I had more of a car salesman approach, I might have used the word, sexy. But I will not go that far. I could easily have seen myself sitting behind it working day in and day out. But then something happened. For me, I imagined what the glass top would look like after a month of me grinding away on it; the upkeep. Constant cleaning… And the lowered L shaped return that would totally ruin my workflow. For some people, this is a dream desk; but for me, it just doesn’t work. My eleven year old daughter would say “you’re doin’ too much, bruh…” I think we have gotten away from form and function. In an era where everything is “extra” dare to be basic! That may sound like a slight but it’s not. When it comes to my desk, give me simplicity, give me order! I picked out an L shaped desk when I first started with the company, but even that is too much desk for my needs. Honestly, my L shaped return has never been attached to my desk, I just realized I didn’t need it. If I had it to do all over again, I would have simply scrolled through the website with a particular keyword that would show me exactly what I want- a desk with drawers. Think about it. We need a workstation, a desk preferably. What else do we need? Storage. What’s the simplest and most effective storage for a desk? Drawers! A revolutionary thought, right? A desk with drawers. But you may be saying, Adam I want a… Stop! Do you need a hutch, or L shaped desk return, or a credenza or do you just want one? This is what I am talking about, we have turned desk shopping into car shopping. We want bells and whistles that we frankly don’t always need. Sometimes, the job will require them, but most of the time, you need a desk with drawers, and just want the rest because they look cool. When it comes to office furniture, always remember substance over style. When buying, remember to buy the steak not the sizzle. We don’t need to be distracted by the shiny details at the detriment of the daily workflow. With this in mind, I thought I would look at some of my favorite desk with drawers options found on the online marketplace. This Cherryman Amber Series desk with drawers is an excellent option. I would select the largest model, which is 71” x 36” and I love the Valley Gray finish. Of course, I would select the two hanging drawer pedestals to make this a complete workstation. Even though the desk has several add-on options, I think the only one I would want to complete the desktop would be the 4 AC +3 USB desktop power modules. I would get the exact same size as the previous option and would go with newest finish option of Silver Birch (Aspen shown.) I prefer this model’s 2 and 3 drawer configuration over the previous floating design. But what is amazing about looking at design focused office furniture, is how utilitarian they are in options. I can just say that with this desk with drawers I would just keep the same add-on options of the previous one.
